Humans have proven to have an uncanny ability to construct reality. We are able to form an array of assumptions about what exists, and how it functions.
Humans are able to forge from this ability practical realities such as labels, social rules, and values that ultimately come to fruition as knowledge that can be spread and shared amongst one another. Ultimately, this knowledge disciplines our behaviors. As disciplines of knowledge disseminate their truths and become embraced by the populace, so is the populace ‘disciplined’. This knowledge is historically situated, shared through positions of power, and embedded in cultural values and practices.
Our collective work in this show aims to neither promote nor dismantle these constructions but rather to expose the vast complexity that exists in daily interactions that are often overlooked or oversimplified. This is accomplished through a variety of mediums that aim to abstract the mundane to an extent that cannot be ignored nor denied. The work in the show aims to communicate this message through the viewers personal interpretation, and encourages them to view the work with a lens that considers the vast and endless expanse of time and interaction in which we all find ourselves.
